I found that travelling to Kuala Kubu Bharu is not as easy as it sounds. This article is going to be a complete guide on how to reach The Sticks in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Malaysia.

I reached Malaysia by 5:40am. Since, I applied for an e-visa, I was little anxious about the immigration procedure. But things were smoother than my expectations. You can read more about how to apply for an e-visa and my experience over here in detail ( in 3 days).

I took a KLIA express train from KL airport to KL sentral and it cost me 55MYR. Only later, I came to know that, there were much cheaper options for this journey which starts from 11 MYR. Since, it was an express, it took me only 28 mins to reach KL Sentral.

From KL Sentral, I booked a train to Kuala Kubu Bharu. You can either use the self-ticketing machine or you can buy it from the counter. Either way, it will cost you 8.70 MYR. Your platform is going to be No 4 and train is Tanjung Malim. This journey will take you around 1hr 20 mins. Once you reach the KKB, be excited to experience something odd and new. You will find a station master, one shop, one taxi driver and no public call facilities. When I asked the taxi driver, he asked me to pay 100MYR for the journey to The Sticks. Also, communication is going to be a big trouble as he doesn’t understand English. Since, I was informed earlier that the cost is going to be around 35MYR, I politely declined his offer. But later did I realize that the only option for me to get to The Sticks is using this taxi. One of the worst mistake that I did was, I didn’t have a Malaysian sim card to make a call. On enquring the shop owner, he advised me to travel to the town and then take another taxi. This journey costs 7MYR. I finally reached Kuala Kubu Bharu town. It looked like an old town which I have only seen in movies. At a moment, I felt like, I am really lost in Malaysia. After a few mins walk, I figured out a mobile shop and brought a Celecom sim for 10 MYR. For 10 MYR, you get 200Mb of high speed internet, 10GB additional internet, 6 MYR credits for calls which is more than enough for your short stay here. I called Rubin, who is the person in charge of The Sticks and he sent me a driver named Pillai to pick me up. The taxi is not a fancy and hardly you can fit yourself and your luggage inside. But the good thing is he charged me only 30 MYR. It is going to be good ride with beautiful sceneries along both sides of your way. You know you have reached The Sticks when you spot a yellow bridge and the journey is going to take you around 15 – 20 mins.

Total Journey In Short:

KL Airport to KL Sentral = KLIA Express = 28mins = 55MYR

KKB town to The Sticks = 20 mins = 30MYR

Total cost to reach Sticks = 100.70MYR

Total time = 2hr 20mins

It can be further reduced by avoiding the express train. The cost can be more than 150MYR in taxi. Feel free to read more about my experience and the review of The Sticks here (Will post in three days).
